They will probably be fighty dungeon crawling levels, nothing interesting.

They've updated their main page with loads of details now:

http://www.baldursgate.com/index.en.html

Gives a run down on new characters and new quests. It'll cost $20 though, and it's only going to be the first BG, not the whole series. So not sure about the price, but we'll see.

The new dungeon sounds a bit pants. 15 levels of arena style battles? So low on the role playing, high on combat then.

The combat was the best bit of BG. It wasnt much better than Diablo at roleplaying.

I guess that depends on how you define roleplaying.

The levelling up and stuff was pretty boring, unless you had some sort of magic attached to your class. But even then it was just adding a spell or two, sometimes not even a new one. I think when Wrathbone says "roleplaying" he means the story, dialogue, inter-party banter etc.

Spot on.

The combat in BG / BG2 was great, but the idea of 15 levels of arena style combat seems like a lazy slugfest, and not especially interesting. Also, the combat could be quite limiting if the level cap is still around level 7. I guess they could introduce new monsters, but I don't think they've announced it. I get the feeling it'll be level 1: 3 ogres. Level 2: 5 ogres! Level 3: 5 ogres and a siren!! Oh-em-gees!

Edit - Level 15: 20 ogres, 50 kobolds, 30 green blobs and 4 Sarevoks!! Aaaaaaiiieeee!

It'll definitely be more Icewind Dale than BG. Dunno, I've been perfectly happy with BG + mods for years. And Trent Oster may have been a Bioware co-founder but all he did on Baldur's Gate were the cinematics - he didn't take a project lead role until Neverwinter Nights and the sp campaign on that was absolute rubbish... Basically I don't have a lot of faith that the new writing will up to scratch. Hopefully I'm wrong of course.

Not the official remake alas, but a fairly awesome looking Dragon Age mod that they'll probably never finish :(

Awesome, but that has "Will never be finished" written all over it.

Now that is something I never imagined seeing and would love to see that finished even though I too think it will never be :(

Looks like they haven't got past the four characters per party mechanic though. There's no Yoshimo in that cutscene.
